Kanchanaburi War Cemetery

The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery was build of POWs (prisoner of war) cemetery for victims of Japanese imprisonment during the construction of the Burma Railway, which is also know as “Death Railway”. There are total 6,982 POWs were buried. Out of 6,982 POWs, 3,585 were British, 1,362 were Australian, and 1,896 were Dutch. There are 11 names from India who were buried in Muslim cemeteries in the Kanchanaburi Memorial. This cemetery is 129 kms North – West of Bangkok. Kanchanaburi is the best reached by Road. There are taxi service, bus service and train service as well from Bangkok. This cemetery is on left side of the road by end of the Kanchanaburi city. The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery was build to pay respect to the remains of 6,982 POWs who died during the construction of the Death Railway during second world war.
